Pat's Sporty/new Low Drag Bars

Our friend Kim Boyle volunteered to do some fitment testing on the first of 4 new bar prototypes we received last week. These Low Drag bars feature 1/2-13 threaded bungs in the bottom of the 1" dimpled tubes to eliminate risers, and fit the stock width on H-D top triple clamps. The chrome plate is so good on these prototypes it got into the threads and made it difficult to install the hardware, but we talked to the factory last night and they're going to chase the threads after welding and plating to make sure it's a clean fit. Kim narrowed the bars 2" on each side to maintain the lean lanesplitter stance of Pat's bike, and it does look badass. Thanks for the feedback, gentlemen.

Tonight we Drink in the Shade!

Anyone who knows George and Wendy will tell you what solid people they are. AND, they get the good Mexican moonshine! What you may not know is that they are back in the fab business 100% and kicking ass. George is doing some DOM frames that mortals can afford, so if you've been thinking about buying some factory-produced frame, you might be surprised by how attainable some Spartan stuff is these days and no one builds a better frame or fork.

Check out this new springer he just finished. It's approximately 6 feet long so I think that makes Mr. Counes about 9 feet tall.

Check out the revamped website and all here: www.spartanframeworks.com

Word on the street is that we are going to see G&W at the Gypsy Run. Oh man, Truth and George in the same state may be too much...

W&W in Germany

I was invited to come to W&W's swap meet and camp out last weekend so I am hanging out in Germany for a few days. Here is a few pics I have taken so far. It been great and I can't thank them enough for putting on this event. Its alot like The Biltwell Bash was. Camping out great food and no vendors just a "swap meet of stuff" from W&W's warehouse. Thanks Nicole, Katja and Wolfgang!

PhotoDump

So, we're working away on this ChopCult thing. One of the neat modules we've built is a photo collection segregated into loose categories called the "PhotoDump". This way if you want to look at a tidy group of Triumphs to research rear end length, look at various wheel sizes on a sporty, etc. you can do it in one place without wading through a bunch of nonsense posts on a traditional forum. I think a lot of guys have a "right-click" fetish where they've downloaded cool bikes to look at for reference later. I know I do. We've already uploaded a bunch of our favorites, but there really is no limit to it as long as the photo is sharp and the bike is cool. We'd be stoked to have your contributions to the collection.

Here are the categories:

Please make sure all pics are at least 800 pixels wide, in focus and well composed. We won't use all of them, but the ones that look the best will get added to the 'Dump. Send me a link to your FTP, or email the pics (no more than 5megs at a time please) to me here: bill@chopcult.com

1:49 Minute Commute

I rode in last night to pack a few boxes and get caught up before the week started. I mounted up this little cheesy video camera to test whether it's worth using or not. Generally this commute is packed with cars, everyone in a hurry, on the phone, doing the hustle. Sunday evenings this place is a ghost town. FXR in hyper speed sounds more like a GP bike, huh? The resolution is much better before Youtube get's it's hands on it, so I gotta figure that out, but otherwise I'm stoked on the mount set up.

Happy Father's Day and Trailer Life

Here's to all you dads out there. My dad has been the biggest inspiration in my life and is a fine example of humility and generosity mixed with an insatiable appetite for knowledge and exercise. He also wrote a cool book a couple years back that details how to stab someone in the neck with a ball-point pen. Check it out here: Amazon. Luckily, at 69 it's been a few years since pop's has been in a bar fight, but he still trains daily and rides his first year alternator shovel to work nearly every day.

Sorry for a lack of blogging on my part this past week, I've been busier being a dad than working. We borrowed my friend Erik's 24' 1964 Airstream trailer and camped at the beach all week. I cheated and sneaked back to work for a couple of the days but still managed to catch a few waves and do lots of relaxing with the family. Thanks Erik, that Land Yacht was awesome. I'm a notorious cheap ass so my family is used to sleeping in tents and vans. I think they are totally ruined now. Anyone got an old canned ham they wanna unload cheap? The Airstream was not hard to fall in love with, it's basically a giant panhead you can sleep in. Built in that mid-century style that I never get tired of. Thanks again Erik!

Drift a shovel? Restore a 45 year old trailer? Take your girlfriend? Third Ryke Erik has skills.

Wiring a Mac in Germany / Don't try this at home

So I am overseas in Germany and Holland visiting distributors and friends and I forgot to pick up an adaptor for my electrical plugs. Figured I'd grab one on the trip but I haven't found one yet and my computer battery and phone were pretty much dead when I got to a hotel today. I just re wired my lathe and so I figured I could make my computer work by changing up the plug wires. I have a surge protector hooked up as well so hopefully no worries.
